The Tongariro National Park will always be a special place for me and i would give anything to go back. I live there for just over 4 months while I was in New Zealand and fell in love with the place. The park is New Zealand’s oldest National park and is also a World Heritage Site. The landscape is unique and spectacular with the volcanic peaks of Ngauruhoe, Tongariro and Ruapehu dominating the skyline.
But its these peaks, or at least Ngauruhoe and Tongariro, that ensure the Tongariro Alpine Crossing is considered a world-renowned trek. It is known as the best one day trek in the country but also many people say that is ranks highly among the top ten single-day treks in the world.
Now many people who have done the 19.4 Kilometer trek will tell that the climbs can be steep and the weather very changeable. But worth every single second. I wholeheartedly agree!!!!! Through out the whole day you are treated to a spectacular view and by the end I was so wonderfully exhausted feeling on top of the world.
You can organize transport to take you to the starting point and pick you up at the end of the day. Make sure you pack for the change in the weather!!! But otherwise Enjoy. Truly if you are ever in this part of the world this should be at the top of your list!!!!!!
